We Have a Winner

Hi everyone!
I want to thank everyone for their participation last weekend. I also wanted to let everyone know who won the blog gift-The Scorpion Crafter! So please post this to inform your readers.

Congratulations!

I had more than 30 comments so I'm going to round the figure to an even $50.00 donation to the
Susan G. Komen for the Cure Organization on behalf of SOC.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (Day 3)

Welcome once again to our SOC Breast Cancer Awareness Blog Hop in support of this worthy cause I'm donating $1.00 to a charity on behalf of SOC for every comment left during this 7 day event. There are also fantastic prizes and give-a-ways offered at various blog stops along the way.

Did you know that: "Breast cancer is the most common cancer among African American women, but historically the medical community has had difficulty reaching out to them." Together, we must alter this reality. Please spread the word and encourage our community to become more active with this cause.

I hope you enjoy this little card I've created. In the meantime, remember that one lucky reader will be randomly drawn from all of the participants who are eligible to win. To be eligible for the prize, you must leave a comment on each project featured on each blog by Monday, Oct. 10, at 11:00pm EST.

The winner's name will be posted on all of the participating blogs Friday, Oct 14. What a lucky date, it just happens to also be my birthday!

October is Breat Cancer Awareness Month (Day 2)

Here is my second creative contribution to the blog hop. Please be sure to leave a comment on each blog entry to be eligible for the grand drawing.

I'd like to share this information that I found on the http://www.webmd.com website:

It is very rare for a man under age 35 to get breast cancer, but the likelihood of developing the disease increases with age, with most being detected between the ages of 60 to 70 years. Family history of breast cancer in a close female relative and a history of radiation exposure of the chest can also increase the risk.

Remember that one lucky reader will be randomly drawn from all of the participants who are eligible to win. The winner's name will be posted on all of the participating blogs Friday, Oct 14, which also happens to be my birthday! I'm also donating a $1.00 to the cause for every comment.

Where Did February Disappear?

So, it seems like the month of February had just begun and it's close to the first of March already. Hard to believe. Last week-end was filled with activities. My daughter's birthday was the 26th.. We hung out in the "D" for the evening. My scrapbook club met all day Saturday. The cards we made for our ATC exchange needed to demonstrate cuts from our particular die cut machines. Most of the ladies own Cricut machines, one has a Pazzle and I round out the group with my Silhouette. I really enjoyed the purple and brown color scheme and the combination of the Tim Holtz rubber stamp with the other embellishments. I understand there is a SOC blog hop in the works so stay tuned! Have a wonderful March.

This is the month of love and history!

February is a month filled with events and celebration in our house. If you were to ask my daughter, I'm sure she'll tell you that the end of the month is much more important than the beginning (her birthday is the 26th.). But, never-the-less, between celebratory programs that highlight the contributions of our ancestors and forefathers and this season of love, I seem to be running from one activity to another.

Yesterday, I had the honor to attend a book signing in Southfield, Michigan, sponsored by the PageTurners. The guest author was Danielle L. McGuire, assistant professor in the History Department at Wayne State University, who wrote "At the Dark End of the Street". There were a number of book clubs represented in the audience. We celebrated our abilities to openly read and gather information about OUR history. Never will we take for granted the strength of our ancestors that realized the importance of the written word. We THANK these freedom fighters for standing tall, often in the presence of personal danger to ensure that we can walk into any store and choose a book of our choice to revel and marvel at their courage. Ms. McGuire has written an account of our history that is both painful to read yet courageous in its ability to deliver yet another example of redemption and triumph. If you haven't already signed up for Scraps of Color: E:Spire, please hop on over to: http://www.classycoordinates.com and download your free copy of our inaugural issue. Please enjoy these pages from a mini-album I've created to honor my mother, and the women that stood shoulder-to-shoulder with her in the thirties. It gives me such great pleasure to combine the craft of scrap booking to honor folks in my family for future generations to look at, talk about and enjoy. Happy February!
